Wooooah, we’re halfway there,
Wooo-ooah! (Lemon on a pe-ear!)
*ahem* We’re at the halfway point for Small Web September already!
If you’re wondering where the heck last two weeks went, you’re not alone – but don’t despair. There’s still loads of time for small webbing!
This is our ‘How’s it going?’ halfway point check-in, where you can share your SWS progress if you’d like to and compare notes with your goals at the beginning of the challenge. Has anything unexpected come up as you’ve worked on your small web project(s)? Are you focusing on the things you thought you would, or have you found some new side quests to go on?
Here are a couple of question prompts you can use for this check-in:
• What have you been working on so far for SWS?
• Are you focused on the same things you outlined in your goals, or have you found yourself doing something different?
• What are you looking to work on next?
As a reminder, this is the third of five ‘check-in’/comment points that will be published during the event – you can check out the schedule and dates for these posts in the event intro post. There’s no cut-off point for leaving comments on these, so you can add something at any time – you also don’t need to comment on every one or do them in order! The themes are a loose guide, but all discussion is welcome.

Date: 2024-09-14 11:05 pm (UTC)• What have you been working on so far for SWS?
I made a exchange letter page LOL. One for myself, and a blank template if anyone else wants to use it.
By making the page, I kinda figured out how to make a mobile dropdown menu, using the checkbox hack. But then I realized the checkbox hack doesn't allow you to click out of the menu, which is very annoying on mobile. So I just copied some code from w3schools for a javascript dropdown :P
I also switched to VSCodium instead of VScode for writing html/css, so maybe microsoft won't track my movements and all the yaoi i've been typing.
• Are you focused on the same things you outlined in your goals, or have you found yourself doing something different?
I am totally procrastinating on updating Fujofans. I'm making smaller pages right now cuz it's easier to focus on making small new things. Woops!
• What are you looking to work on next?
I've been typing out my ship-specific exchange letters in markdown [example with he-man and skeletor lol], and actually that might do as its own page to send people to! But I could also make individual pages for each ship... hmm.... that way i can also add images if someone needs to look at the characters and interactions for inspo.
Still want to clean up my writing page. The display is a bit thick for my liking, sort of just want them in a list. Though I do like the summary view and to see if it's gen, no fandom, or explicit. Gotta figure out how to make it easier on my own eyes! Then to fix the actual fics, really want it to be barebones with no menu so people can focus on the writing, but I still want the ability to change color schemes and possibly fonts? Will maybe make a template for that later :D

Date: 2024-09-15 04:41 am (UTC)Glad you found it useful! I love searching codepen for stuff like "Table of contents" and seeing if anyone's done something specific... like the highlighting! :D

Date: 2024-09-15 04:59 pm (UTC)I didn't know about VSCodium, thank you for the rec! \o/
It looks so good, though! It's really easy to see the details of each work at a glance - and it's visually interesting, too, but without being busy. The pull-quote style summary is particularly nice.

Date: 2024-09-16 07:12 am (UTC)Ayyy glad you found my page on Mastodon :D Especially cuz I found this event via the #smallweb tag too 😊 Really happy you could find the page of use, please show me if you or your friends do any edits to it!
(and ditto on DW HTML being hard to wrangle!! I don't know what works, and the CSS is hard to edit..)

Date: 2024-09-16 07:10 am (UTC)Thank you! AO3 makes it really easy to download your own pieces as unstyled HTML, so it's fun to play around with styling those :D
