Found at least a couple of tracks that I absolutely love, so I thought I might post them here. It turns out the genre I was looking for is Arabic Afro House.

i’m thankful for mindless games

i realize this should probably be a game log but i’ll worry about that not now. gaming heavy day, though i kinda feel like i needed it. tomodachi life demo is out and i had a lot of fun with it, though i’m disgruntled they basically lock your miis up after the demo is done so they can’t even interact with anything

mostly doing dailies on new horizons and new leaf, im starting to feel a bit of a burnout, and i stopped checking in as often in 3DS tomodachi life… i should do so again

but on the topic of mindless games, i’m glad i have a few ‘forever’ games i can always revisit that are immensely mindless for me, where i can just lock in and forget life exists for a bit

jazz jackrabbit 2, luxor 3, and need for speed most wanted (2005, not the 2011 one) are games i can literally zone out and play. jazz jackrabbit not quite as much, that one needs me to focus a bit more than ‘shoot balls’ and ‘zoom zoom drive’ LMAO since it’s a shooter platform, but it’s one of those games among the ‘i’ve replayed this bitch so many times i lost count’

with how drained i’ve been and lacking general motivation, it’s nice to just revisit nostalgia comforts that offer me a reprieve from everything for a little bit

reading up on rap history and i'm really endeared at the connection i'm seeing between rap handles & hacker handles & drag performer names. something about names that reflect one's chosen performance back at society. deftly slipping out of the constricting noose of given names to play tricks on society and bestowin' upon them art with a wink.

It works! Much wow!

Even with Friendica and Hubzilla having a few hiccups connecting to each other, Friendica is winning me over. Hubzilla is my new Social Media bestie, though. So many possibilities, even if it's really clunky to get used to. At some point, I really want a self-hosted Hubzilla hub to do my own things there.
The other fediverse programs (Are they called programs?) might tempt me a little, but not beyond trying to poke at things. Hubzilla on the other hand, might be so useful. Social media feeds, websites, wikis, articles and one can have different channels for each.

I just need to also read up on Raspberry Pis…

AI Video links:

“OpenAI shutting down Sora, Disney drops investment: The news comes less than four months after Disney announced a $1 billion licensing and investment deal with the owner of Sora.” That’s the ComicsBeat article, but this news has been shared all over.

The original Disney-Sora announcement had me going “yeahhhh, I’ll believe it when I see it.” I figured any attempt to do content moderation would be overwhelmed by the onslaught of “users determined to make video of Disney characters doing inappropriate things.” Did not have “the whole thing implodes before they even get to that point” on my list! But here we are.

“Rest easy, Marvel screenwriters. The video that supposedly cooked Hollywood was, get this, appears to be made by humans to hype AI.

“Finji, publisher of beloved indie titles such as Night in the Woods and Tunic and the developer behind Overland and Usual June, says that TikTok has been using generative AI to modify its ads on the platform without permission and pushing those ads to its users without Finji’s knowledge, including one ad that was modified to include a racist, sexualized stereotype of one of Finji’s characters.

Crimes and defamation links:

“Angela Lipps, seen here in a photo from her GoFundMe page, spent more than five months in jail for a crime she maintains she didn’t commit after AI software linked her to a series of bank fraud incidents.” (The incidents happened in North Dakota. She was verifiably in Tennessee at the time.)

AO3 spambots have pivoted from “accusing random authors of using AI” to “accusing random authors of committing IRL sex crimes.” If you get any of these yourself, go directly to the Mark Spam button. I mean immediately. Sprint like you’re training for the Olympics.

An AI agent of unknown ownership autonomously wrote and published a personalized hit piece about me after I rejected its code, attempting to damage my reputation and shame me into accepting its changes into a mainstream python library.”

The feature crashed frequently and its “sources” linked to spammy copies of legit websites, or other archived copies that aren’t the actual source page. Some sources even went to completely unrelated links that weren’t written by the person whose work they were supposedly an example of, potentially indicating that the suggestions Grammarly’s AI offers with one person’s name may be based on a different person’s work.”

And the rest:

“Every day, Michael Geoffrey Asia spent eight consecutive hours at his laptop in Kenya staring at porn, annotating what was happening in every frame for an AI data labeling company. When he was done with his shift, he started his second job as the human labor behind AI sex bots, sexting with real lonely people he suspected were in the United States.”

“The fact that these guys can’t shut up about the day that their spicy autocomplete machine will wake up and turn us all into paperclips has led many confused journalists and conference organizers to try to get me to comment on the future of AI. That’s a thing I strenuously resisted doing, because I wasted two years of my life explaining patiently and repeatedly why I thought crypto was stupid, and getting relentless bollocked by cryptocurrency cultists who at first insisted that I just didn’t understand crypto.

Video: “The “AI Revolution” actually started decades ago, it was just a massive lie. In this gaming history documentary, we investigate how companies like Sega and Tiger Electronics used marketing smoke and mirrors to sell the “intelligence” of the 80s and 90s.

“Stop spending money on Claude Code. Chipotle’s support bot is free.”

Doing things again, finding new stuff

Finally sat down to write an idv fic after a good while. Idk when will I properly get to finish it but I'm just happy to work on some idv stuff again. I have another fic that I wanna work there too, so I might get to finish them at similar times. They're both dmnoir fics so more of that is always nice.

I've also been making proper progress on silksong for once lol. I've caught up to where I was left before I got linux installed, so I was now mostly trying to figure out where to go next. I got one of the major bosses down and realized where to go finally. Also found out where to get the clawline ability after not figuring it out on my first run of the game. Apparently I just needed to go to another lava filled area which I hate, so I kinda just ignored it until. I realized I kinda needed to do that. At least now I can go to the mountain area.

On other topics, I found this site called pikidiary. It's for micro blogging but more cute and you can customize it a little bit more than your usual micro blogging platform. There was another one similar to it called hjonk that someone sent in a discord server i'm in, but for some reason, I did not get an email once I sighed up. Too bad, considering it was pretty ok looking and seems nice. More customizable than the first one it seems too, but what can you do right now.

I've been very lazy regarding colors stuff. Have yet to make the move to the new place, but I don't even know where to start still. No amount of looking at php code is really helping it, I get overwhelmed every time I look at it. Idk if I can even do this anymore, which is a shame since I don't think I'll ever get the possibility to have a site for that ever again. It would be dumb to just let it waste away empty, but the struggle of just making it work is too much. Idk what to do regarding that.

I'm a week post radiation; I'm still very red, and I have some raw patches in my armpit / outer edge of the breast. I assume this is mostly because I did not do the same prevention there, because I did not realise I needed to.

This means I am doing a lot of going topless; it is fortunately still warm enough to be doing that (although it is down to 22°C at the moment, and even with the door shut I'm a tad cold). I ran out of the ointment the hospital gave me, then the healing gel i was using, and the replacement [personal profile] artisanat found isn't as good.

I have found a couple more books to fit the reading for the fiction part of my project, so I'm going gung ho on that. Am a little frustrated that I keep finding books from the USA, rather than anywhere else.

I have not been keeping up with DW. I've just opened about 20 posts and I think I'm going to end up closing them having skimmed. I have, instead, fallen face first into Heated Rivalry fandom, and very much appreciate [personal profile] chaosmanor sharing their sources for fic. (I have not seen the show, nor read the books. This is unlikely to change. Youngest has been reporting back on the show).

90 discussion questions

What is a topic you could stand up and talk passionately about for five minutes?

Any number of fandom opinions:

  • Why we shouldn't overlook Celeborn of Lorien when we talk about Galadriel, and why everybody still does.
  • Why Colonel Young from Stargate SGU is actually the right man for the job even though he himself doesn't think so.
  • Why some people love the villains in media and why it doesn't make them villains themselves.

A few non-fannish subjects:

  • The history and typology of morris dancing - I regularly do give a talk about this.
  • The history of Roses and Castles painting and how to do it yourself - I have taught a class on this too.
  • Anglo-Saxon clothing and how to construct it - I might be a bit rusty on this one if I was asked to go into depth but I can easily fill 5 minutes.

Iwasaki Moeka passed the Team 8 auditions in 2014 alongside her peers, Abe Mei, Okabe Rin, Okubora Chinatsu, Nagano Serika, Fujimura Natsuki, Onishi Momoka, Kuranoo Narumi, Shitao Miu, Cho Kurena, Hamamatsu Riona, Fukuchi Rena, Honda Hitomi, Yokomichi Yuri, the other Yokoyama Yui, Yoshino Miyu, Oda Erina, Oguri Yui, Yoshikawa Nanase, Hayasaka Tsumugi, Hirose Natsuki, and Yaguchi Moka. Unlike so many of the members we have covered already who saw their debut at the SKE48 or HKT48 theatres, Moetan's first appearance was actually in Akihabara, in the famous theatre at the top of the Don Quijote store and the two floors of arcades sandwiched in-between them... though I can't actually remember if those arcades would have been there in 2014. I get the feeling that at that time the building was all still Don Quijote all the way up, but I can't say for sure. I digress! Moetan debuted! The Team 8 revival of PARTY ga Hajumaru yo was the stage! Two years to the day after, she graduated!

Wait, what?

Moetan!

Even during the Team 8 era, it's sometimes tempting to think of AKB48 during these years as mandatory military service, yet if we entertain the idea that someone can become a ghost whilst still living, then to this day, Moetan is definitely haunting the AKB theatre. Maybe. Born in 2000, a true Millennial, Moetan was also the first ever member of AKB48 to be born in Nagasaki Prefecture, a testament to how far reaching the popularity of AKB had become at the moment, the group being a true national institution at this point. In keeping with the idea of AKB being so all encompassing at the time, Moetan never actually planned to audition at all, but rather her mother and sister sent in an application for her and she only discovered two days before the big event! It's kind of cute imagining Moetan being completely oblivious to everything, sitting there talking about her admiration for Watanabe Mayu and then suddenly finding herself thrust on stage with a real shot of following in Mayuyu's footsteps.

If there's one thing I like about Moetan, it's how enthusiastic she was regarding the members that were important to her. She was always talking about how much she loved Mayuyu and fellow Team 8 member, Shimoaoki Karin, how much she loved HKT48's Moriyasu Madoka, also from Nagasaki Prefecture. You don't need me to explain to you how adorable Moetan was during her time in AKB, she's more than capable of conveying that herself:

Moetan!

The gap between the idea of AKB48 as this coming-of-age-rite-of-passage and the pressure of real life is never more telling than in Moetan's story, however. In early April of 2016, Moetan announced that she had been accepted for her first choice of high school and really wanted to push forward towards her dream of one day become a doctor. To make this all the more tragic though, a day after this announcement, she was hospitalised with influenza and was unable to graduate properly, her name being quietly removed from the books without her ever being able to properly say good-bye. Ah, physician heal thyself, eh, Moetan? And yet, at the same time, it's easy to imagine how Moetan might want to haunt the theatre for the rest of her days. Good news though! In 2019, in Osaka, Moetan came back even if only for that concert! Joining Nacchan and Pena, Moetan finally got to say her good-byes.

100% completion! I have scoured the map for collectibles and had a lovely week inside of ruins and have been jumpscared a few times (but not too badly) and got frustrated during combat sequences a few times (if they discover a body the npc's AI just fucking BEELINES for you even if you're hidden) and had a fair few ???? moments during climbing exploration because it wasn't immediately obvious... sometimes jumps do not look jumpable at first glance, the grappling mechanic fails for no discernible reason except Lara is angled oddly, or she won't navigate complex terrain all that well...

The DLC unfortunately returns to the format that I remember Rise using for its tombs, in that they're all designed around timed puzzles so you can run them quickly to get a higher score and then trophies. I sincerely do not care for timed puzzles that require me to double back half a dozen times because I missed activating something by a fraction of a second. I want to explore it's about the aesthetic and vibes. I want to take my time solving a puzzle myself, but not in a repetitive way. I was perhaps two thirds of the way through the first DLC tomb and so frustrated and having so little fun that I had reached the point of "I don't care I just want it to be over" and used a walkthrough to get out. I am hesitant to do any more of them frankly, but trophies.

I was thinking about maybe doing a Deadly Obsession run in NG+, which is the hardest difficulty of the game with no checkpoints and reduced campfires, which can be done reasonably quickly in NG+ if you get all the gear you need and max out your resources before you start the file. The final boss arena changed my mind on this entirely because I can foresee losing hours of my life to running this sequence.

why I will not be doing that )

Uhhh what else. I liked Lara's feral moment: good is not soft. She has a terrible day after Square dutifully kills their one other female character that fights, and your doe eyed protagonist should have moments of striking fear into those who have chosen to test her. I liked the ending: Lara got to see her parents one last time, I liked the Crimson Fire twist, there was some really good music playing during the tomb at the Mission of San Juan, I got to explore a Spanish galleon, temples galore. I liked an npc commenting on the thrill of discovery he could hear in Lara's voice, of seeing things unseen for thousands of years, and hoping she'd never lose that wonder. I did not like Lara's death cutscenes, which I never ever have, but if you're fast enough you can checkpoint reload before you have to see it and spare yourself watching spike impalement. Honestly the most heinous of these was during an escape sequence in Paititi, if the guard catches you they joyously hack you to pieces in the street whilst Lara screams, and that is way, way too 2013 Tomb Raider for me, which is why I never played it. It's just torture porn. It bothers me that there are cutscenes people had to make for every single location which is just Lara screaming and dying in brutal ways, it's not necessary. Men of the genre don't have this happen to them, your defining woman does not need it either. It also bumps the rating: there's a lot of stabbing going on in the closing hours but you don't see any of it on screen and there's no blood either?? The most gruesome thing was in the opening couple hours with a recently mauled, blood soaked half body asset being thrown at you from a jaguar's maw but most of the time unless it's Lara out of combat deaths, nothing.

Anyway, I give it a solid "it was fine", music was consistently great, it looked beautiful, narrative was not ground breaking but it wasn't a bad story to tell by any stretch. Once I decide what to do re: DLC tombs, it's probably time for Endwalker, where I'll be wishing for Mayan and Incan ruins, and what Dawntrail could have been...

I have been struggling to write consistently for a while now. I concluded (well over a month ago) that my writing burnout is most definitely not healed, and while it has healed enough to write, it hasn't healed enough to do writing challenges.

I did a writing challenge in November, and stopped writing daily towards the end of November. Even though I set my goal at time spent, not words written, it still hit me - just slower than the previous year, when I tried what should have been an easy daily target based on how much I'd been writing in the months leading up to it.

Back to my only goal being "something most days." That, I seem to be able to sustain. Just need to get the habit going again.

So since Ao3 keeps getting blasted by the Death Star, it would PROBABLY be in my best interests to get a move on in archiving my fics over here SOOOOOOO at some point in the next month you’ll probably start to see a lot of stories pop up over here! Read them if you want, but honestly no pressure since it’s just OC shit. xD

Also, for some reason I’ve been thinking about what goes into making a fanshrine? I’ve wanted to make SOMETHING to show my admiration and appreciation undying devotion to Leon Kennedy for a while now, and thanks to RE9 it’s had me going back and reviewing a lot of his story and learning things I either never knew or completely forgot. I’ll start looking up inspo to see how other folks approached it, but if you have any you could link me, LET ME KNOW I WANNA SEE 👀

Speaking of fandom projects, my ReNagi ship manifesto is nearing completion and I’ve harped over this damn thing for so long that I’m not sure I wanna post it b/c AH UGH OUGH EXPOSING MY INTERESTS TO THE MASSES but know that it’s been on my mind and I’ll get brave enough to post it one of these days. xD

Shit while we’re here does anyone ever have one of those moods where you have so many ideas for fan projects running through your head but know fuck all on how to execute them? I honestly might just hand them off to someone to execute b/c I don’t wanna be perceived, but we’ll see. Making a ReNagi zine and a TatsuJun zine would be so fucking COOL, though…orz

Ok I’m done yapping! Hope the day is treating you well wherever you are! ❤️

Saw this on [site community profile] dw_community_promo and thought it was a really great idea for a community, so I'm boosting it.

From the post about it:

[community profile] latam is a new community for people to come together to talk about latinamerican music, films, food, culture, fandom, and more!

Everyone's welcome, no matter where you're posting from! And you can also post in your language (official languages of the community are Spanish, Portuguese and English!)

I'm not very conversant on that culture myself so I'm not joining the comm (yet), but I fully support the idea of it and would be happy to hear it's an active community.

I've already added it to my list of interesting DW communities so next time I post the list, it'll be there.

Also, since I'm posting: I'm always on the lookout for good communities to promote! If you know of one that's not on my list, let me know and I'll add it.
