Chatter posts are irregularly-occurring posts to... chat in. Show off what you're working on, what cool stuff you've found lately, what's going well or not so well or anything else. Stop in to say Hi if you want.
The navbar looks great! Your website has sooo many interesting things on it - I specifically really liked the Freeware section and am planning to check out Ruina: Fairy Tale of the Forgotten Ruin. Can't wait to see what other things you'll add as time goes on!
Could I hear what your pros and cons are? 😃 It seems so cool that you CAN host your own fedi instance, though I don't know what I'd do with such technology...
I wouldn't be running the server (though that can be done, just not by me), but hosting the instance, yes.
Short form is:
* pro: - current instance is nice but has hands-off/invisible modding; I could do my own modding - block/limit/defederate any other instance I need to without relying on the above - current instance is also sloggy and occasionally bungles its certs, if I move I might as well move all the way
* con: - paying for server hosting/maintenance (+ possibly domain); not huge costs but something to keep in mind - absolute lack of energy to tackle actually doing the thing - see above but substitute making sure my account migration works - have to do my own modding even at Maximum Fuckhole Capacity[tm]
Oooh I can definitely see being able to mod your own stuff being a plus. But that one big con is having to do your own modding.. it really takes so much energy to mod a 10 person discord server, let alone a fedi server that can connect to a million other people! I think I'm more than willing to let someone else handle the modding for me cuz of that reason 😅
One difference being if a federated server full of fuckwits is being a problem -- or can be seen as likely to be one -- it can just be blocked at the root and it would never grace my digital door, even if I'm already being faced with Maximum Fuckwit Capacity ...
I can limit how many -- if any at all! -- can actually join any hypothetical instance.
Bit the bullet yesterday and signed up for Neocities! Planning on first making a rudimentary personal fic archive on there, but we'll see what else I add as I get re-familiarized with web design....
For anyone who wants to add Simplified Chinese text on their websites, I also came across SentyFont yesterday, and they let you use all their fonts for free for non-commercial personal use!
Ayyy those fonts are awesome. It's great to have options that aren't MingLiU (the comic sans of chinese fonts cuz it's the default in most Windows computers ahha), for web and for design use 😊 Good luck with your page, glad to hear you're gonna make a fic archive!
Omg absolutely, as much as PMingLiU looks clean I've gotten tired of having to resort to use it all the time. And Google Fonts' selection isn't that great either. Before I found SentyFont I was using Japanese fonts (particularly RocknRoll One and Kaisei Decol), which covered most of the commonly-used characters but missed enough to where my text formatting would look inconsistent.
All of Senty fonts have so much character - my favorites are Tamarind/酸角体 and Watermelon/西瓜体. And it turns out that they offer traditional characters too!! So I'm excited to see what projects I can make that can incorporate these fonts

Haven't really made much progress, but I've been thinking about what I want to do on my site, particularly with a one-person wiki project I have in mind... I don't want to use MediaWiki, so I'm leaning towards Starlight since I'm already using Astro.
I think my favorite thing that I've done is gone back through all of my sites and pages and added resources and, where applicable, to-do lists so people can see where I got my code and graphics and what I'm working on.
last week I was finally able to get back to working on my website a bit, after a month off due to life stuff happening! I got a few more fics posted, and tweaked the formatting of my fic lists after feedback from a mutual. I've been considering adding a recipes section to the site.
I really enjoy having a to-do page on my site, to keep track of the things I intend to do! lots of grand plans. but I need to make time for more work on it, in amongst all my other hobbies lol.
I’ve mostly been fidgeting with colors! Reversi is a great default, but something a little darker with cream-colored text is easier on my eyes. Beyond that, I’ve been playing with the kind of accent colors I think would work best (it turns out that the default red on a dark background is a recipe for eye strain), and I’ve also made a few in monochrome palettes of various colors I like even though I’d never personally use them since they kind of hurt my eyes.
I’ve been meaning to look into a tutorial for color-coding tags based on which section they were entered in, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
i haven't done anything major with my site because of life getting in the way, but i've been experimenting with a lot of different browsers lately and i actually found and fixed a couple minor little CSS bugs on my site because of it, which was neat to do :) i plan on doing some more tweaks when i get some more time!
