Small Web September Check-In 4: Resources!
Oct. 1st, 2025 12:52 pmAs of today, we're officially in October, and that means that sadly, Small Web September is at an end!
(Sorry for the slightly later-than-promised check-in; yesterday was super busy π )
It's the last check-in, but that doesn't mean the small web fun has to come to an end - please do continue to share your progress on projects, questions, and cool resources that you've found by making posts to the comm (or in our chatter posts!)
For now, though, here are some questions and discussion prompts for the final check-in. Our theme this week is Resources!
As a reminder, this is the fourth of four βcheck-inβ/comment points that will be published during the event. If you want to view all the past check-ins for Small Web September, you can use the Small Web September tag - there's no cut-off point for commenting, so feel free to continue adding replies and discussing things related to each check-in! For our previous check-in post, head to Small Web September Check-In 3: Communities!
Sometime in the next week, I'll also be putting up a feedback/retrospective post to get thoughts on how the challenge was run, what you liked, and anything you'd like to see more of.
Kudos and thank you to everyone who has taken part in SWS, worked on projects, left comments, and shown enthusiasm - the event wouldn't exist without you! I hope you had fun this month π

For now, though, here are some questions and discussion prompts for the final check-in. Our theme this week is Resources!
- What did you work on during Small Web September? Was it the same thing that you set out to work on at the start of the month?
- Did you learn anything new or make any unexpected discoveries as you worked on your project(s)?
- Have any resources or guides been particularly helpful for your small webbing - or are there any that you wish existed/want to make?
- What are your plans for your project(s), or any other small web endeavours, beyond September?

Date: 2025-10-01 11:24 pm (UTC)Yes, aside from one (maybe animated) illustration that would be super detailed for December/Winter and I did not finish all the art pieces for my website [image of sample of gallery]. I did upload the base website to nekowebs with the gallery removed so the process was broken up into smaller steps.
I finished my main page update with a random image with three trick or treaters (so far), my Halloween blog design update and my Christmas blog update. I also finished my basic winter and Christmas Kaixa (from Kamen Rider 555) and it's not my personal website if Kaixa is not there for absolutely no reason.
Did you learn anything new or make any unexpected discoveries as you worked on your project(s)?
I was trying to do art for a page for my website, but I found out that everyone was using a material they bought in Blender asset store! π€£π€£π€£ (I will not disclose what it was, it is what it is and it's not one's fault.) So I decided to go with a low-poly 3D look, it would be faster and just make the models IRL and photograph them. Why go through all that effort? That's what the small web is about.
Have any resources or guides been particularly helpful for your small webbing - or are there any that you wish existed/want to make?
I suggest Ribo.zone's free page and checking your favourite neocities pages to see where they get their resources.
I would like more "web code snippets" to exist, because I find adding details to your website is SOOO much easier that way. I also have to upload my resources page when I'm done.
What are your plans for your project(s), or any other small web endeavours, beyond September?
Finishing my Yaoi Jam game for October 10th and the rest of my pages and art pieces for my portfolio.
For my personal site a general winter design because I'm Canadian, a splash page for Christmas, Winter and December in general, a winter Poterina (blog mascot), Animal Crossing fanpage, Kaixa fanpage and a old website pages/art gallery (very doable and partially done). Oh, and my resources and notes pages.
Also, thank you to the hosts for having the event which gave me the push to finish and update my websites.

Date: 2025-10-05 08:52 pm (UTC)Ribo.zone's free page looks like a great resource - thank you for reccing!
I'm really glad you found the event helpful for getting things done <3 Thanks for taking part! And good luck with your future goals, especially the Yaoi Jam game ^^

Date: 2025-10-06 05:38 pm (UTC)I laughed because I received this comment as I was working on my Yaoi Jam entry. It should be done soon, I was glad I was able to participate in Yaoi Jam and this event at the same time.

Date: 2025-10-02 11:19 am (UTC)I managed to complete my goal and get the six episodes of screen captures (for Stargate SG1) reduced to 134 files from 1334. It means I have enough inodes to start adding more items... when I get the time! I did manage to update the TV/Movie credits list for the DH site too but need to add the web pages.
Did you learn anything new or make any unexpected discoveries as you worked on your project(s)?
Not this time around. Reducing the number of files is a time-consuming and dull job.
Have any resources or guides been particularly helpful for your small webbing - or are there any that you wish existed/want to make?
I used a FREE ONLINE collage creator: https://www.fotojet.com/apps/?entry=collage
I just chose a template that allowed 8 images is a 2x4 table and loaded each screen capture in turn until the collage was full. Saved the file and started over with the next set of 8. As I said, highly repetitive and dull job but I needed to free up those inodes (file, directory markers).
What are your plans for your project(s), or any other small web endeavours, beyond September?
1. I still have the Stargate Atlantis and Traders screen captures file count to reduce on the David Hewlett website. They are the two big ones! I will likely start with Traders next. After that I need to look at the other websites to see if I can reduce files there too.
2. I have new credits/web pages to add/create and more items to upload on all the sites
3. I still have loads of webpages to convert/remake/create for the Nick Lea site. This is the site I took over from a friend who fell ill.
4. Still waiting on the AO3 team to move the Michael Biehn fanfiction archive into AO3 but they have been extremely busy and low on helpers.
I'm just doing what I can when I have the enthusiasm!

Date: 2025-10-09 08:00 pm (UTC)Wishing you lots of enthusiasm for your future tasks, and I hope you can throw in some variety of tasks so that it doesn't get too dull while you're reducing more files! I remember seeing the announcement about the Michael Biehn archive, too - hopefully there will be some progress before too long π€

Date: 2025-10-03 11:05 pm (UTC)Made a Dreamwidth account for more casual blogging and public interaction. (not sure if I'll delete this account or not but if I do it'll be a while cause I've got a LOT of notes I need to move elsewhere but this will be the last time I post here using this account). I'm also checking out a couple other sites but Idk if I'll keep them yet.
And I posted some of my poetry on my site. I also wanted to get up reviews of another volume of manga on Eternity Main but I didn't get to it in time. I also wrote out a list of fanshrines I want to make in the future but other than that I managed to stay within my goals.
What are your plans for your project(s), or any other small web endeavors, beyond September?
Work through that list of fanshrines (currently doing a rewatch of a show for one of them), make a space for my ocs and their world, get more poetry up, debate posting my fanfic/fanpoetry, add to my BOS. Some of these are more concrete than others.

Date: 2025-10-05 09:38 pm (UTC)(I had actually thought that the longer of the two fics was abandoned midway through, but no, I'd got really close to finishing it! That's kind of good, in that my readers at least got most of a resolution, and also sad, because I more than likely could have finished it with just one more chapter π )
It was tempting to start on my next fandom without putting up the very last RK fic, but I made myself do that first, and now I feel very accomplished \o/ So, next stop will be some more of my fics from late-2000s fandoms like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Road to El Dorado. I'm also motivated to revamp the design on my fanart page so that I can feel happy enough with it to continue adding art, but I suspect that will take a few hours of fiddling and experimenting, so I might not have enough time to spend on that for a while.
For resources, I've been giving my list of fic archive/indie web resources a refresh with the addition of new resources that I've found since last year; I'm also planning to add a section for interesting reading (there's so much good stuff, though I need to track it all down again xD). At some point I also mean to host it on enchantedsleeper.space so that it's not just buried in my DW.

Date: 2025-10-09 08:45 pm (UTC)I hope you will now feel tempted to finish that story. It's not a fandom I read (or even know!) but I am sure your readers will adore you for completing it :)
