Just some small updates to my site, but I was able to link more to the sites of people I followed on Cohost. So that's fun

I actually touched my site! It's all Final Fantasy XIV's fault, even though what I updated was for FFXI. See, FFXIV's alliance raid for the latest expansion is Echoes of Vana'diel, which is all based on FFXI. The second raid dropped a few weeks ago, and I've been spamming it ever since, trying to get gear from it for my jobs as they really could use it. This particular raid features characters from the Rise of the Zilart expansion in FFXI, and I thought some FFXIV players might be curious about those characters, so I spent a week finishing up my Rise of the Zilart fan script. It's now posted at my site, here: https://altheavalara.neocities.org/ffxi/rotz

I also added a changelog for the site, so folks can tell what's been updated. The site's still a work in progress as I replay FFXI for story and work on my FFXIV fanscript (I haven't touched that in over a year; time to work on that again!)

Anyway, really having fun with the site. I hope it is of use to people!

I was taking it a little easier this month... mostly because I had other stuff to work on on the side, lol, but here's what's up:

  • Finished and officially launched my fanlisting collective, Coquelicot! I applied to make my first fanlisting about my OTP (the one I've been showing off in some of my previous comments) and was accepted, so I'm really excited about that! I also joined A LOT of fanlistings and cliques, which took a while, but it was also pretty fun.

  • Relatedly, finished & released my Pokémon Starters clique!

  • I've been taking a break away from working on my personal website for now, although I'd like to have it in a shareable form before the year ends at least. I also still am not done with my creepypasta page... Really should get back to this either this month or the next...

Right now, I'm focusing on A) finishing my fanlisting in the next three weeks and B) building a website for my partner [personal profile] jonphaedrus who needs somewhere to store its fanfic and a landing page for selling its future novel. I'd still like to update Lysandre Labs at some point but we'll see lol.

The Pkmn clique is super cute!! I love the art you made for it, specieally Scorbunny's (my rabbit loves to stretch his leg reaaaally far when he's sitting, it reminds me of it haha).
I'm taking a short break from my site, but will def put a little critter when I come around it again :)

Thank you so much! Glad you like Scorbunny :D! I was trying to find unique poses for every Pokémon and it seemed like a good in-character one for it haha.

To be honest I have never really looked at fanlistings even though they've been talked about on here a bit, I'm probably going to get lost in this for a while...

I started outlining the site architecture/simple roadmap for my OTP fan shrine site I'm building! Now to do the building of it... But I've had some health stuff going on the last few weeks so I'm trying not to feel too impatient with myself. Trying being the operative word.

I also started organizing for the first session of what I hope will be a semi-regular IRL HTML meetup! Which I will probably be mostly using to work on said fansite, lol.

Oh, also started going through the Odin Project curriculum. I want to get a better foundation of coding skills rather than keep patchworking things together.

I've been super burned out because of my day job so I haven't had much/any time for hobbies but my friend H.G. got their webcomic up recently, all 600+ pages so far with regular updates!

I've only added a few new links to my linklist site but today I looked at it and was glad that I had it. I spent some time yesterday talking to someone who was caught up in the Mississippi censorship kerfuffle on BlueSky trying to convince them to post their essays elsewhere besides a microblogging site and a carrd and that probably a static site was the best idea. Talking to them it really does feel like something the youths (tm) cannot even fathom an alternative.

I don't mean to be doom and gloom but it might be a good idea to get contacts (like email, at least) from your favorite internet people ASAP.

I've been sort of all over the place with my projects. My comic, my stamp collection, cleaning up my office room, my art room and working on reading 5 books now (it didn't originally start off as 5 but now I am reading two library books before they are due! ^^). Also I want to get some outdoor work done around my yard and flowerbeds.

I've mostly been trying to add content to pages I already have rather than coding new ones of late. I do have plans to add some simple pages for rough and unfinished artworks, though, mostly in the hopes that more posting=more drawing.

I've done a few things here and there, but the most visible one is probably upgrading my book tracker from just an RSS feed to a set of pages grouping books I've read per year, with nice little progress bars for what I'm currently reading. I came across an Emacs package called firestarter, which runs a function every time any file is saved in a particular directory, so I've plugged my journal files into my site build function, with the result that every time I log a book I'm reading/game I'm playing/etc., it automatically builds the pages and uploads them to the "trackers" part of my site.

I guess my goal with the tracker stuff is to write more code now so I can write less of it later … that is, if I automate as much of the process as possible, all I'll need to do is run a very quick function to log whatever media I'm tracking and then the build scripts take care of the rest. Paradoxically, tracking this stuff on my website feels like a way of minimising the amount of time I need to spend at the computer dealing with the data I've put in, because the site deals with it for me in the format that suits me best (while third-party sites wouldn't). I need to see if I can figure out a way to get authors and titles of books logged as "acquired" into a list for completing-read, so Emacs can have a go at autofilling those details when I'm logging reading progress; if I can manage that, it'll seem like an even less intrusive process.

Since most of my web projects fizzle out I've been trying to work on something with a smaller scope, so I decided to make a one-page web shrine to my favourite Pokémon TCG artist. I wanted to include a table with info on all the cards they illustrated, and since they're still making illustrations for new sets I decided to store the data in an array and then generate a table from that instead of coding it all manually.

The thing is, for some reason I decided to do it in PHP even though I'm more experienced (and it probably would have been easier) in JavaScript. I keep getting blocked over things like the data structure not being fit for purpose or not being able to autoload classes because I didn't set up the file structure right. For a one-page project it feels too cumbersome so I'm going to re-write it in JavaScript and see if I can simplify it!

I'd like to learn how to use PHP someday, but I think it'd be better on a bigger project.

The Big Move is finished. Here is the new site. I need to double check to make sure everything is linked correctly and other tweaks to the code but I'm not doing that for a couple days. I'm also deciding what social media sites I want to use and if I want to change my name on any of them to match the one I'm using on my site. (I'm going by Teagan Starfarer over there).

Since I'm gearing up to run Small Web September, I thought I'd better dust off my site, so I took some time to tick off something I've been meaning to add for a few months now, namely, reclists, which are now part of the Meta page. There's only two, but I'm pleased with them and I like having them archived somewhere.

It's funny that considering I spend most of my time writing fic, I tend to work on anything but adding fic when I actually come to do things with my site. I think it's because other areas feel more manageable, whereas my unarchived library of fic is vast and intimidating. I'm going to think of some ways to break it up or just make it more appealing for me to archive for Small Web September...

Ohhhh, I like the layout you've got! Feels like not enough sites use full-width layouts or make them work well.

I so feel you on the unarchived library of fic. <.< I have over a dozen oneshots I haven't uploaded to AO3 yet and at this point I don't even know if I want to bother with waiting to backdate them, might just let them start collect dust right away, the writing is so oooold and not as good in places.

Thank you very much! I didn't realise it was that unusual, I've just been making things up as I go along design-wise xD

Heh, I haven't put these on AO3 either and I've decided I probably won't - it was only when I lit on the idea of starting my own fanworks archive that I started to come around to the idea of archiving my oldest, cringiest stuff (after flirting with the idea of putting it on SquidgeWorld). For some reason, situating it in a Personal Archive of Me feels fine, and I think also because there's a little bit of friction associated with accessing the site, it doesn't feel like I'm putting my old stuff under a spotlight xD

But the drawback is that I'm trying to add that and my newer works to the site, which over time comes to more than 100 fics, and I keep making more 😅🙈

Coming slightly late but I finally took a break from Other Obligations to deal with the SSL issues I was having. Turns out my NGINX configuration was blocking Let's Encrypt from accessing the page it needed to perform the HTTP-01 challenge for one of my subdomains, lmaoo. Fixed now! Although I've also discovered an issue with what appears to be the combination of the acme-companion and Watchtower Docker containers that I've (fingers crossed) fixed now I think. Now I can actually link to my site without nasty warnings every time the SSL certificate expires! X'D
