Hi [community profile] smallweb! Let's chat!

Chatter posts are irregularly-occurring posts to... chat in. Show off what you're working on, what cool stuff you've found lately, what's going well or not so well or anything else. Stop in to say Hi if you want.

I also want to share European Alternatives for anyone who could make use of it. "European alternatives for digital products."

I don't have anything to show yet past a bunch of unedited text in Scrivener, but I got the idea to make a small website about my Final Fantasy XIV characters, and I've been having a ton of fun writing the content for it. I keep thinking of little bits and bobs I can add... At this rate, it's going to be more than a "small" website.

No coding yet though, I'm in the middle of packing for a move and I don't want to get too deep into a project before I get settled in. I'd like to use grid or flexbox for the layout though because I don't have any experience using either and it's high time to learn. If anyone has any general tips on them, or links to resources, I'm all ears.

With CC shutting down and Retrospring closing registrations to also shut down in a few months, I decided to take a crack at hosting a small Retrospring instance myself, since the code is open source. The most involved thing I had done before this was running efiction on my website back in the day, so it was a challenge... After many trials and tribulations, I succeeded! You can take a peek here.

This has me feeling very accomplished.

Oh, thanks so much for the EU alternatives! It's nice to know stuff near me, as most sites I visit are US-based that's where the resources they share are located at :'p

On coding, I finally took the jump and bought my own domain + moved to a new host!
I know nothing about backend, so I still have to sit down and learn, but it has been very exciting.

You can do way more than I imagined, a whole new world has opened to me (^-^) So far, aside from webrings, I would love to host my own okeaki board for my site, along with a little guestbook so I don't have to rely on 3rd party sites.

I've been making steady, if sporadic, progress. I haven't solved a couple of practical problems, mostly because of lack of focus. And I haven't got any of the updated files off my computer because I keep thinking I should work out how to deal with the neocities API, and I haven't got my act in gear to do so yet.
