Small Web September Check-In 5: Wrap-Up!

And now, the end is near... And so I face the final check-in... 🎶

It's already time for our very last check-in for Small Web September!

If you can believe it, we're already on the last day of Small Web September. How is everyone doing? Maybe you feel super organised and productive and have hit every single one of your goals - or maybe you feel like there simply hasn't been enough time in the month to do what you wanted to do. (I feel you 100%). Maybe it's somewhere in the middle!

Whatever your status, congrats on getting to this point and for taking part in the challenge! Even if you feel like you didn't hit enough of your goals, setting out to do something new with your small web project(s) is awesome on its own. Taking part in the comments and community around SWS is excellent! (I'm totally unbiased with this one, of course :D) Or maybe you're making plans for what you can accomplish when your schedule lets up a bit.

This is the fifth of five ‘check-in’/comment points that will be published during the event, but there’s no cut-off point for leaving comments on these. You can add something at any time, and you don’t need to comment on every one or do them in order! The themes are a loose guide, but all discussion is welcome.

alas! I did not complete my goal for this month, which was to either make my Sailor Uranus site or a fic archive.

However!

• I wrote about 3-4 pages for the Sailor Uranus site, which is more than I've ever had before!! I need to rewrite one of them (gender is complex) but it's a good foundation to build on.
• I did some good brainstorming for the fic archive, at least? The real problem is, I can't host adult content on my website, so I'll have to find a solution for those fics with that content. It's not all of my work by any means but it is a facet of what I write, and I don't want to get my websites taken down, lol. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Alas I have never had to worry about this in 20+ years of making websites because I've always kept my fic separate...

Really enjoyed taking part in the challenge despite not finishing, though! I have very much missed the community aspect of making websites. I was very productive earlier in the year — revamped my ONE OK ROCK site and put up my Final Fantasy series fansite which is more than I've gotten done in a long time, so I'm just glad to be making incremental progress again...

Oh gosh, I hadn't realised it was you who runs Winds of Change - can I just say how much I LOVE that site, it's one of my genuinely most-visited FFXII related places!! Thank you so much for such an amazing resource!!!

Oh, thank you so much!! I'm so glad to hear this, it means a lot to me. There's a lot of things I need to tidy up on the site but it really is something I'm very proud of; FF12 remains my all-time favorite game. I'm thrilled you've found it helpful!

I'm glad that you got some good groundwork laid, that still sounds like a productive month! Regarding your adult content conundrum: what is it that's preventing you from hosting it? 🤔 Are you on Neocities, or is it a restriction of your current website host? If it's Neocities, I would say you could switch to your own host, and if you're already on one, hunt around for a more permissive hosting service? Being able to host adult material without restrictions is one of the benefits of the indie web, so there should be a way!

Yeah, it's against my host's TOS. I don't really want to move hosts again (at least not until my current term is up in a few months) so I'll have to look around and see what I can do.
