Back to working on my writing archive (does contain NSFW stories) and also starting on the brainstorming stages for a small site with some pictures of the model kits I've been building.
Mostly I think I need to work on routine because when I do get work done, I end up thinking 'oh that was easy' and, yes! It was! I just need to do it and stop thinking it'll be huge projects all the time. Little bits add up!
Feeling disgruntled on here and elsewhere, so signed on to omg.lol and am slowly sniffing around, setting very basics up etc.
Still want to make a static site for all the blog stuff/novel downloads/other pdfs/etc; whether this is the year, no idea. Whether Neocities or Nekoweb or the like or wait to see Neato/Web 1 Land, no idea.
I want to be less disgruntled first. (also, to pick me some comfortable irc clients for desktop and mobile.)
First year of my own fedi instance has gone swimmingly --
I have an omg.lol account too, and I keep meaning to use it more but every time it gets at all complicated I get the vibe I should wait for Neato so I'm waiting for Neato... lol.
Admittedly based on a few days (lol), but it's like two different use-cases for me -- omg.lol is a collection of communication platform accesse and tools (and a place to connect those all up if you want), and Neato is going to be a host provider etc for actual static sites.
Granted I signed up for omg.lol specifically aiming for most of those communication possibilities if only to have them as backup, so not unbiased here lol.
Currently redoing my site (former site name was livingpoetry) from scratch again... Most of it isn't up yet, so I'll be working on it for a while. Next time, I decide to change my name/do a big rearrange of things/other large project all at once I'm gonna need someone to smack some sense into me. LAMO
In other news, I'm also participating in the Snowflake Challenge on dreamwidth for the first time.
OMG, I was clicking around your site and I was pleasantly surprised to find my own site on your links page! 🥹 Thank you!!
I like your layout, it's very easy to navigate. I'm looking forward to reading more of your otherkin writing. (I'm not otherkin but I'm a soulbonder and that's, like, otherkin-adjacent.)
I think I convinced one person on r/neocities to not use an autoplay music embed for their website. That's my indie web accomplishment for the whole year.
I'm doing my best. I'm (obviously?) all for the small/early/indie web revival but I really don't understand why we're bringing back autoplay music. ðŸ˜
Just maintenance on my sites, but cool resource! (Or thing happening.)
Folks are applying to the next round of Top-Level Domain creation (the .net, .com, , .social etc) to create .meow which would be run by a non-profit supporting queer organizations! So people could have a domain ending in .meow while helping with a good cause! The Kickstarter to fund the application is here, with lots of more detailed explanations (these folks have a Plan): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dotmeow/meow-next-round-gtld-application.
I almost made a new post in this community to share this but I didn't know if that would be alright... =')
If you're interested, your first step would be becoming a member of the community. It looks like right now you're just subscribed. Membership is completely open. You can change your status here: https://www.dreamwidth.org/circle/smallweb/edit
Updated my bingo to the 2026 one, for now will just chill with the main site. I should get around archiving most of my fic on the fic archive site, since I haven't done that for most of my idv and bsd fics. I just get a bit lazy with it due to the process, even if it's not hard
I've been thinking of redesigning my home page. I also have a few fics to upload to my archive as well and I should do that soon. I recently added all the events I've modded or currently mod to my website as well so that was fun!
Doing my best to get my character shrine done for makeashrine's current challenge! I'm someone who's always been motivated by external deadlines, so it's nice to have this pushing me towards finishing a site I've had in pieces since 2022.
Still in the writing phase right now, but soon I get to make a layout....... I have no idea what I'm doing for it. Oops. I should probably figure that out sooner than later.
I managed several updates to my site, including a new chapter for a short story I'm writing, flipping from a .com to .org address, my outline page that I had pulled for a re-working is finally live again, a new section for a whole new fandom (still empty though), and an HTML updates log for easy tracking of what's new!
I am a huge fan of gradients, especially once I realized you could stack them on top of each other. You can get some crazy shapes if you play with your transparencies right, and they're animatable, too. I don't do it myself, but it would be cool to play with, I think.
I haven't been doing much on my personal website for the last few months (focusing on fiction writing & outlining), but I did start writing up a text let's play for Control. I managed to reuse some accordion code I used once, years ago, and thought I'd never use again, so I'm pretty happy I was able to find another use for it (hiding my theorizing about Control Resonant).
I'm not big into this scene, but I love that it exists, I did make a neocities site a few months ago. It's kind of empty right now, but I loved the process of coding something again.
Hooray! I also find coding quite fun, just the right level of challenge, while also being a creative outlet. If you're looking to expand the offerings on your site, you could try using it to host a backup archive of your fanfic or other writing!
I set up a fanlisting collective recently, and launched my first-ever solo fanlisting, for the indie game In Stars and Time! So, that's pretty cool! I'm very excited for it to get listed at TFL.
Considering making my art subsite into it's own subdomain, too, but I'm not sure... (ballonlea.net/art/ to art.ballonlea.net)
I set up a writing page for my fanfics on my site back in October, but decided I should wait until I have more fics up to apply to the Fan Archives Directory (you have to email them to update which fandoms you're listed under, and it can take a while for updates to go out, so I thought I should wait until there's more fandoms on there so I don't have to update it as often later). Right now I'm working on a fic as a gift for a friend (in a fandom I've never finished a fic for before), so once that's finished and up, I'll apply!
happy new years!! i say as a literal baby who just joined dreamwidth today haha. im hoping to continue working on my goatlings shrine as the virtual pet site literally nuked itself today (3 days late to its end date lol)

In the way of IRC clients, may I recommend HexChat and Revolution, respectively?

I'll look into those clients, cheers!

I need to write more about being otherkin but it hasn't happened yet. *fingers crossed* I'll do it this year.

Wow, I didn't know that folks were still doing shrine challenges! That's super cool. I'll have to start being on the lookout for those.
