Neocities comment section?

Hello yes I am new to the small web and would like some help

I am trying to get a comment section working on my new Neocities. I tried this site, which looked promising, but comments haven't been coming through. I looked around for an alternative comment method, and it looks like there might have been a Neocities update that makes this kind of thing harder? But I'm not sure.

Edit: Thanks everyone! I decided to go with an external guestbook instead

Any advice would be appreciated. also i'm very new to dreamwidth so if this is breaking etiquette of some kind, sorry about that.

I can't help with your question, but your post looks just fine in terms of DW etiquette. This community is reasonably laid back - on topic and polite is pretty much exactly what we expect!

Accounts made after 2022/23 are a bit limited when it comes to linking to scrips and such, so that might be getting in the way. There's some info/talk about it here.
I know some people use Cbox, but I'm unsure if that one will work.

I've been using Cactus Comments on my Neocities site, and though nobody has commented yet so I can't tell you how well it actually works, setting it up seems to have gone okay! And being able to edit the CSS so that the embedded comment sections look good with my site is a nice plus.

The main tricky bit is that you have to have a Matrix account and create a separate Matrix channel for each page you want to have a comments section on. I found the Cactus Comments documentation fairly easy to follow, though.
